Thanks very much for your help in pinpointing the problem. It was such a minor lameness that blocking wasn’t really helping us to get to the nub of the issue.
| Horse Details | Irish Draft x Thoroughbred, 7 year old, Eventer. |
| History | The horse was presenting with lameness; nodding on lunge / right rein. The vet had attended and blocked O/S (RT) fore with a subsequent recommendation to rest as a soft tissue shoulder injury was suspected. The horse was rested for 12 weeks. On the 3rd week back in work the horse presented again with similar issues. Chiropractor had attended and treated horse but no improvement. The owner contacted ThermScan to see if we could shed any light on the issue. |
| Diagnostics | ThermScan performed full body thermal scan and produced a comprehensive report which was explained to the owner. Relevant images are shown below: |
| Outcome | ThermScan’s report identified abnormal asymmetrical thermal pattern distal forelimbs at hoof. Following a detailed explanation of the report by ThermScan the owner arranged a further consultation with vet. Subsequently, radiographs were then taken of both front hooves. Changes were noted N/S (LT) fore hoof indicative of low grade navicular. The Vet and Farrier were engaged regarding progressive re-balancing work to mitigate issues. The horse was given time off to recover. The horse made a full recovery and returned to competing. |
