Case Study | Navicular Fracture

Had a lovely experience with ThermScan and we managed to find out what was wrong with my horse. As a result of having the ThermScan imaging done we could see the heat in his right hoof; this prompted me to ask the vet for an x-ray. It was the best decision I made for my horse as we found out what was wrong; now we are able to start his recovery. Kind, friendly and easy to understand, I would highly recommend ThermScan.

Horse DetailsClydesdale, 1 year old, in-hand showing.
HistoryThe horse presented lame O/S (RT) fore – suspected abscess.  Vet and farrier examined the horse and both concluded there was no sign of abscess. An appointment with ThermScan was arranged with a view to providing some insight as to what might be going on.
DiagnosticsThermScan performed full body thermal scan and produced a comprehensive report which was explained to the owner.  Relevant images are shown below:
OutcomeThermScan’s report identified a clinically significant hyperthermic pattern O/S (RT) distal fore at hoof. The horse’s owner recalled the vet. Subsequently, radiographs identified fracture to navicular O/S (RT) fore.  Management took the form of remedial farriery – front shoes applied with raised heel.  Box rest was advised for 6 weeks after which walking in hand commenced.  The horse made a full recovery from this injury.
