Really recommend having Audra come to do a thermal scan of your horse. She scanned my horse on Saturday and has found some issues that have been causing pain and need further investigation. She was really friendly and professional and even Skypes you afterward to talk you through all the images.
| Horse Details | Thoroughbred, 11 year old, Ex-racehorse. |
| History | Previous back problems had been associated with an ill-fitting saddle. Some issues with hind limbs were thought to be due to the horse being left in field with bandages on N/S (LT) hind. The horse was tense when O/S (RT) hind was picked up and was reluctant to weight bear. The horse had been labelled with potential underlying behavioural issues. An appointment with ThermScan was arranged by owner in attempt to find out what was going on. |
| Diagnostics | ThermScan performed full body thermal scan and produced a comprehensive report which was explained to the owner. Relevant images are shown below: |
| Outcome | ThermScan’s report identified clinically significant abnormal thermal pattern thoracolumbar spine. The images were forwarded to the vet for review. Subsequently, the horse was admitted for radiographic examination of the back. Referral was then made to an equine hospital to investigate kissing spines. Following radiographic examination diagnosis was made of impinging dorsal spinous processes T11-L1 with large cyst noted over caudal process of T11-T13. Interspinous ligament desmotomy T12-L1 was performed. |
